Pre-flight briefing
Before you build.
Answers drawn from the questions customers ask most about availability, compatibility, delivery, assembly, and complete cockpit commissions.
Are Dogfight Dynamics products in stock or backordered?
Availability is shown in the site announcement, on each product page, and in the cart. When backorder messaging is active, an order reserves inventory from the incoming production batch and is fulfilled in the order received. Payment is collected at checkout, and a backordered order may be cancelled for a full refund before shipment.
What is the current production and delivery lead time?
Timing depends on the product, production batch, destination, and selected configuration. Current modular-hardware guidance is displayed on the website. A turn-key commission typically requires 10–14 weeks after the deposit has cleared, the written specification is approved, and long-lead component availability is confirmed.
When will I receive tracking information, and will everything ship together?
Tracking is sent when a parcel or freight shipment is booked and accepted by the carrier. Large or multi-product orders may ship in more than one package or production release, so you may receive multiple tracking numbers. If you need an order update, include your order number and the specific component you are asking about.
What is included with the Hornet Package?
The Hornet Package is the complete Dogfight Dynamics structural hardware set: Head-Up Display replica, Main Instrument Panel, left and right side consoles, canopy bow, ejection seat, flight seat, and flight chassis. It does not include the complete electronic panel suite, flight controls, instrument displays, gaming computer, monitor, VR headset, motion system, shipping, or on-site installation unless those items are specifically listed in a separate turn-key proposal.
Can I build my cockpit in stages?
Yes. The platform is modular. You can begin with a Main Instrument Panel, console, seat, chassis, or complete structural package and add compatible components over time. Confirm your intended final configuration before ordering so mounting choices and top plates support the planned upgrade path.
Are Winwing and TekCreations panels compatible?
The Main Instrument Panel supports the Winwing Top Gun MIP and selected TekCreations controls, including the IFEI, annunciators, Master Arm, ECM, and ALR-67 units. The side consoles support selected PCFlights and TekCreations panel layouts. Hardware revisions and mixed-brand builds can change fitment, so send the exact model names and photos before ordering if your combination is not shown in the compatibility guide.
Which throttles, sticks, and pedals will fit?
Supported left-console throttle choices include the Winwing Taurus, Taurus throttle-only configuration, Winwing Orion 2, and Thrustmaster Warthog, with the matching top plate selected at order. The ejection-seat control area supports Winwing Super Libra, Orion and Orion 2, Thrustmaster Warthog, Virpil, and VKB systems. Many pedal systems can be integrated, but the exact mounting pattern and travel envelope must be confirmed for the selected chassis.
Can I mount Dogfight Dynamics hardware to an existing sim-racing chassis?
The Sim-Racing Adapter Kit supports compatible 40-series chassis with 500 mm parallel-extrusion spacing. Known fitments include the Sim-Lab GT1 Evo, Advanced Sim Racing ASR 4 Open Face Gen 2, and Trak Racer TR160 Mk4. Other rigs require a measurement and fitment review before purchase.
Can the cockpit be installed on a motion platform?
Yes, motion can be planned into the original build or added later. Platform payload, center of gravity, mounting geometry, travel, room clearance, and the pilot’s weight must all be reviewed. For a commissioned system, Dogfight Dynamics can provide final configuration weight and mounting information before the motion platform is selected.
What are the cockpit dimensions and assembled weight?
The structural Hornet Package reference envelope is approximately 150 × 117 × 128 cm (59.05 × 46.06 × 50.39 in) and the listed hardware weight is approximately 120 kg (264.55 lb). A fully equipped turn-key cockpit commonly reaches approximately 150–200 kg (330–440 lb), excluding the pilot. Final dimensions and weight depend on controls, displays, seat configuration, canopy supports, and accessories.
Can I use the canopy bow as a step or handrail?
The canopy bow is sold as a replica cockpit structure and is not advertised or certified as a step, seat, or access handrail. Do not stand, sit, or place your full body weight on it. Plan entry and exit around the chassis and approved support points, and contact us if your installation requires an accessibility aid.
Are assembly instructions and mounting hardware included?
Relevant assembly documentation and the product-specific fasteners listed in the box contents are supplied with the hardware. Review the packing list before beginning. Large cockpit structures are safer and easier to assemble with two people, and the required tools depend on the products and controls being installed.
Where can I download the assembly manuals?
The current illustrated manuals for the Flight Chassis, Ejection Seat Replica, left and right Side Consoles, and F/A-18C Five-Instrument Display Kit are available on the Assembly Guides page. Five-Instrument Display customers can choose the recommended ready-made 1024 × 768 HELIOS profile or follow the manual-build instructions for a custom layout. A printer-friendly quick start is also available. Use the guide with the packing list supplied for your order, because product and hardware revisions can change.
Can you provide CAD, DXF, or mounting dimensions for a custom installation?
Selected reference dimensions and fabrication files may be provided after purchase when needed to align custom panels, top plates, displays, or canopy components. Availability depends on the product and file type; not every proprietary production file is released. Send your proposed hardware list and drawings before fabrication.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, Dogfight Dynamics serves many international destinations. Available countries and rates appear at checkout when a standard method is configured. If your country is not listed, contact the Flight Desk with the product list and full destination so we can determine whether parcel service or a manual freight quotation is required.
Are shipping, taxes, duties, and customs charges included?
Modular products use the applicable shipping rate shown at checkout. Taxes are calculated where required. International import duties, brokerage fees, and local customs charges are normally the customer’s responsibility unless a written quotation expressly states otherwise. Complete systems, dedicated transportation, and white-glove travel are priced according to the destination and project scope.
How are large cockpit components and complete systems transported?
Smaller components may ship by parcel carrier, while chassis, complete packages, and commissioned systems may require multiple cartons, palletized freight, or dedicated door-to-door transportation. The final method depends on dimensions, weight, destination, access, and whether on-site installation is included.
What should I do if a shipment is damaged, incomplete, or incorrect?
Contact us promptly through the support form and include your order number, the affected component, photos of the shipping box and labels, photos of the parts received, and the relevant packing-list item. Keep the packaging until the review is complete. This information lets us distinguish a separate shipment from a missing, damaged, or incorrect part and determine the correct resolution.
What is the cancellation, return, and refund policy?
Backordered hardware may be cancelled for a full refund before shipment. Other cancellations, returns, custom items, installed equipment, and third-party products are handled under the applicable written quotation and Dogfight Dynamics refund policy. Contact us before returning anything so the correct authorization and destination can be confirmed.
What is the difference between the Hornet Package and a turn-key system?
The Hornet Package is the modular structural cockpit hardware. A turn-key commission coordinates the selected structure, electronic panels, flight controls, displays, computing, cabling, software configuration, assembly, calibration, and testing as one system. Core commissions typically range from $25,000–$35,000; premium systems with advanced equipment, logistics, and white-glove installation commonly range from $35,000–$50,000+.
How long does a turn-key commission take?
The typical commissioning window is 10–14 weeks. Timing begins after the deposit has cleared, the final written specification is approved, and long-lead component availability is confirmed. Complex custom engineering, international logistics, site work, or unavailable third-party hardware can extend the schedule and will be identified during specification.
Can a turn-key build use my existing PC, display, headset, or controls?
Yes, compatible client-supplied equipment can be incorporated after review. Share exact model numbers, computer specifications, photos, condition, cables, accessories, accounts, and licenses during discovery. Client-supplied and third-party hardware remains subject to its original manufacturer warranty and support process.
Can the simulator switch between a curved display and VR?
Yes. A commissioned system can be configured with display and VR launch profiles when the selected PC and hardware support both. Display mounting, headset software, OpenXR environment, simulator settings, and cable routing are defined in the project specification. Mixed-reality capability depends on the selected headset.
What site information and electrical service are required?
Provide the final address, room dimensions, doorway and stair clearances, intended placement, loading access, parking, internet availability, and details of any equipment being supplied by the client. A dedicated 20-amp circuit with two duplex receptacles near the simulator is recommended for premium installations. Final power, USB, display, network, and ventilation requirements are confirmed for the selected system.
What does white-glove installation include?
Depending on the written scope, white-glove service can include site review, delivery coordination, on-site assembly, placement of the cockpit and display mount, wiring, software setup, control and display calibration, functional testing, and owner handoff. Transportation, airfare, lodging, meals, rental vehicles, and other travel costs are quoted separately unless the proposal expressly includes them.
What warranty and post-installation support are included with a turn-key system?
Commissioned systems include 12 months of limited coverage on Dogfight Dynamics installation workmanship beginning at on-site acceptance, plus 30 days of remote handoff support for operating questions, configuration review, and reasonable post-installation adjustments. Third-party and client-supplied equipment remains covered by its applicable manufacturer terms.
